Programme Overview
The "Enlightenment in Dialogue" series comprises five dialogue blocks which continue for the entire duration of the exhibition.
The following forums will take place in the National Museum of China from spring 2011 to spring 2012.
Forum I: The Art of Enlightenment – The History of an ExhibitionDate: April 2th, 2011, 9 am to 12 am The first forum describes how the exhibition “The Art of the Enlightenment” came about. It also introduces visitors to the sites of the collections from which the exhibited artworks were taken and explores the reasons for choosing this exhibition theme. more |
Forum II: Enlightenment and ArtDate: July 14th, 2011, 9 am to 12 am This forum is devoted to the Enlightenment and its relationship to art. The focus will in equal measure be on particular aspects of the Enlightenment. more |
Forum III: Enlightenment and Its Chinese HistoryDate: September 9th, 2011, 9 am to 12 am Enlightenment is an omnipresent phenomenon that cannot be limited to a single event in European history. This forum is therefore dedicated to Chinese facets of the Enlightenment in both China and Europe. more |
Forum IV: Enlightenment and the Modern AgeDate: November 17th, 2011, 9.15 am to 12 am In this forum the major changes that the Enlightenment brought about, including both positive and negative impacts, will be discussed. more |
Forum V: Enlightenment and Cultures of KnowledgeNEW! THE EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED. Date: March 25th, 2012, 2 pm to 4.15 pm The Enlightenment brought with it a change in the way knowledge was organized and classified, not only in Europe, but also in China, albeit at a later date. more |
